Loves and Laments
EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble
Friday October 12th, 8.00pm
Little Missenden Church, by candlelight
Tickets £16, £12, £8
EXAUDI: Julia Doyle, Juliet Fraser, Katie Trethewey sopranos, James Weeks director/harpsichord
EXAUDI's programme explores the riches of the soprano voice, interweaving lyric and lament. The soprano lines are supported and embroidered by the director’s harpsichord
Love is the theme of the programme’s lyric core: its playful skirmishes, glorious victories and delicious submissions.
Songs by Monteverdi, Luzzaschi, Strozzi and Steffani are spiced with recent pieces by Skempton and Finnissy. Dramatic laments by Carissimi, Weeks and Lutyens punctuate the lyrical flow.
EXAUDI, one of Britain's leading young vocal ensembles, made a memorable Little Missenden debut in 2005.
They love to combine new music with old -
"Where else are there sopranos like these, guaranteed to hit the notes other choral singers cannot reach?" (Financial Times on Aldeburgh Festival 2007)
"There are some performances that you know will be etched on your memory forever, such is their intensity and power" (Guardian on Aldeburgh 2006)
