Evelina Puzaite piano

Young Lithuanian pianist Evelina Puzaite won international awards (including First Prize at the Rubinstein Piano Competition).  Since coming to London to study at the Guildhall School she won the Oxford Music Festival prize and the Landor Competition.

She was chosen as a Philip & Dorothy Green Young Concert Artist, and made her Wigmore Hall debut this year.

"In the finale Puzaite's care over dynamic markings was particularly impressive… she showed a control which took the breath away" (Edward Clark, Classical Source).

This captivating piano miscellany played by a major talent on the threshold of her career embraces quintessential Debussy piano impressionism (iridescent goldfish, moonlight haunting ruined temples, bells heard through leaves); late Schubert;  the first book of Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze (a protest against the 'philistine' and 'emptily theatrical' music of his time); a breathlessly virtuosic De Falla fantasy, whirling webs of Spanish sound; and the three movement Nocturnes, by Oxford composer Thomas Hyde, premiered by Evelina at the 2006 Presteigne Festival.
