‘Fabellae’ means ‘little stories’ (fables) in Latin. The stories we tell ourselves are part of our cultural identity, and mould our thinking and values. All the pieces Savâdi perform in this programme tell their own tales – sacred and secular stories expressed through Italian music of the first half of the 17th century by Carissimi, Strozzi, d'India and others.
In this exciting period composers followed Monteverdi in seeking new ways of expressing texts in music to ‘move the passions of the soul’.
In 2006 Savâdi… gave the Festival a memorable recital of love songs from Monteverdi’s Italy, making ravishing sounds with their two sopranos and harp.
When they won the 2003 Early Music Network International Young Artists’ Competition
